Obnoxious and sort of laid-back, Bunshichi is the type of contradiction that makes sense when you think about it. Many of his behaviors—from complimenting a woman's breasts to messing around with Shin—make him someone that's obviously obnoxious, but his way of carrying himself is very relaxed and laidback. He doesn't get ahead of himself too much, but that doesn't mean he's excluded from stupid moments. Really, he's as much of a stereotypical seventeen-year-old boy that he can get. He likes women, he doesn't do too much for school, and he really isn't the type to exert too much effort.

As it comes to the rest of his personality, he's pretty perceptive, but you wouldn't notice it at first glance. He's a bit optimistic, wanting things to just work out in the end. He doesn't really want to move forward with his life. He figures he'll pick up after his parents, after all; having motivations really doesn't ask for much.

But when you've got a best friend like Shin Natsume, sometimes you need to re-evaluate what that all means. He's pretty stuck on things working out, staying normal, and that means doing whatever's necessary to keep Shin happy. This is something he wants to do. He's glad that Shin wants him around for all the obnoxious, stupid, and vulgar things they get up to sometimes.

Bunshichi and his family are not from Ponderosa. Truthfully, Bunshichi started life in California, outside of Sacramento, and his parents ran a Chinese food shop there. When they managed to grow successful enough, they ended up moving to Ponderosa. He was eight around the time, and it was an easy enough move. Though his family would never be considered respectable or anything else of the sort, they made themselves a place in the community. They remained unaware of the other attributes of the city, too; as far as they knew, Bunshichi just had a chance to go to a good school and get a decent education. That was all they were concerned with.

As a result, Bunshichi had a normal upbringing. His parents didn't expect much of him. Maybe he'd grow up and take over the business, maybe he'd go off to college and do something else. He grew up believing it might be okay to be pretty optimistic about life. Despite his easy upbringing, Bunshichi picked up a knack for fighting and reading people. Though he doesn't like doing the former and the latter comes naturally, he never made it really obvious. Not when he was younger--and definitely not now.

Somewhere along the way, he became friends with Shin Natsume. The two couldn't be more different. Shin was crazy, deranged, and didn't give a fuck about the world, and Bunshichi was a lot more grounded. But it wasn't long until he took to Shin like the white on the rice in the restaurant his parents owned. The two became inseparable; though the outside eye might notice a weird relationhip with the two, Bunshichi was eternally loyal to him. He'd do anything for him--cut an apple for him, fix a bike, or be there for him. He was the only one who could ground Shin, and he does it willingly.
